Schuyler Black for Fort Walton Beach City Council

Why I’m running

Five years home

My wife and I have proudly called the Fort Walton Beach area home for the past five years. As a part of the local radio broadcasting community, I've had the privilege of meeting thousands of our neighbors, local business owners, first responders, educators, veterans, and community leaders. Listening to their stories has only strengthened my desire to serve this incredible city.

I was raised in a small, close-knit community in southern Iowa where neighbors looked out for one another, local businesses were the backbone of the community, and people took pride in where they lived. That's the same spirit I see here in Fort Walton Beach, and it's the kind of community I want to help strengthen for generations to come.

Where I stand

My priorities are simple

City services

Maintain the exceptional city services we rely on.

Our police officers, firefighters, sanitation crews, public works employees, and Parks & Recreation staff are the foundation of a safe and thriving community. I'll work to ensure they have the support and resources they need to continue serving our residents at the highest level.

Economy

Grow our economy without growing the tax burden.

Fort Walton Beach has tremendous opportunities to generate additional revenue by making better use of existing Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) resources. By attracting more tournaments, festivals, concerts, and community events, we can support local businesses, bring more visitors to our city, and create new revenue streams without increasing taxes.

City code

Modernize city code and support local businesses.

Our local businesses deserve a city government that is responsive, efficient, and easy to work with. I'll advocate for reviewing and modernizing outdated city codes while preserving the quality and character that make Fort Walton Beach such a desirable place to live and invest.

Neighborhoods

Protect our neighborhoods and property values.

Every homeowner and taxpayer deserves to know that city codes will be enforced fairly and consistently. Protecting our neighborhoods protects our investments and helps keep Fort Walton Beach beautiful for everyone.

Communication

Rebuild a stronger sense of community through communication.

One of my biggest goals is to help bring our community closer together. Government works best when people feel informed, involved, and heard. I'll be accessible, transparent, and committed to communicating regularly with residents so everyone has a voice in the future of our city.

Smart growth

Be fiscally responsible while planning for smart growth.

Growth is inevitable, but it should always be thoughtful and responsible. I'll support policies that encourage economic development, attract investment, and improve our quality of life while ensuring every taxpayer dollar is spent wisely.

Fort Walton Beach has already given my family so much in just five years. Now, I want to give back by helping build a city that remains safe, financially sound, business-friendly, and united. A place where neighbors know one another, families want to stay, businesses can succeed, and future generations will be proud to call home.
